Microsoft Teams – FAQ

You can use the meeting, calls and chat features without submitting application to ITSC. In the Chat feature, you can share files with a list of your chosen users.

The files are stored in the OneDrive of the user who sent out the files. If the user left CUHK, the files will be lost.

There are three common reasons why a Team is needed:

(A) I want the shared files to be persistent.

After a team is created, the files shared within the team can be kept even if the person who sent the file left CUHK.

(B) I want continuous collaboration with external users.

External users do not have permission to view files/conversations after the meeting is ended. Creation of teams is recommended for continuous collaboration with external users.

(C) I want to use apps like Planner

Some apps are only available in Teams.

After a Team is created, you will access it using the icon “Teams” instead of “Chat”.

Sometimes the log-in session cannot be carried from one browser tab to another or from browser to the teams client. If you see the following screen, you can click “sign in” at the bottom of the page ​to sign in again.​​

​There is a known bug in Teams. The bug has been fixed in Q4 2020. If this issue persists, please try:

(A) Leave the meeting and join again

(B) If (A) is not working, please update to latest Teams client app.

• Recording is saved at
  • For Teams Meeting: Organizer/Presenter’s OneDrive whoever initiated it
  • For Channel meeting: Teams’ SharePoint location of that channel.
• Organizer/Presenter/Channel Owner/Channel Member can adjust the sharing option when the recording is ready
• The recording will be kept in OneDrive/SharePoint permanently unless it is explicitly deleted.
  • By default, the recording can be viewed by meeting members of the same tenant.
  • Permission for external users to view the recording needs to be granted explicitly.
  • Whoever granted with the view permission also have right to download the videos.
