A new critical Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerability, CVE-2026-111497 (aka HTTP2Shell / Python2Shell / Node2Shell / Broccoli2Shell), have been identified in Google Brotli decoder library and affects multiple stacks, including Node.js, Python and other products. The vulnerability allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to corrupt adjacent decoder state memory, disclose sensitive memory contents, cause a denial of service, or potentially execute arbitrary code using a crafted Brotli-compressed stream. System owners are urged to update their affected systems with the latest patches immediately.
* Notes:
Below are some workarounds to reduce exposure:
Changing Accept-Encoding alone is insufficient: a malicious server can send a Brotli response regardless of what the client advertises, and urllib3 selects its decoder from the response’s Content Encoding header.
